For creators, taking control of their future means controlling the
use of their works, specifically in their interactions with media
companies. Independent creators need a single, interoperable system
to license and distribute royalties from uses of their works. The
premise is simple: The same technology that allows large companies
to market material globally at the stroke of a key also supports
reasonable accounting methods to track the revenue streams and pay
a fair share to copyright holders.
There is broad consensus that such a system for freelance creators
is needed; in fact, in the near future, such a system will be a
service to the industry and the public in quickly and efficiently
resolving any questions or disputes about the terms of use for creators’
works. This system would not replace royalty licensing operations
already serving the needs of creators in other arenas.
The challenge for creators has been to assemble the proper capital
and organizational effort to launch a robust system that would serve
tens of thousands of creators. No one organization has the money
to invest in such a system nor does one organization have the staff
resources to administer a system.
The Federation is assembling the needed capital to properly finance
the system.
Goal: Establish a royalty system for freelance
creators who are not covered by another royalty system.
